Lifestyle Changes That Impact Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to get and/or maintain an erection before and during intercourse. ED is often a sign of underlying issues ranging from medical conditions such as heart disease, hormonal imbalances, diabetes, anxiety, and even lifestyle habits that negatively affect the ability to get and sustain an erection. Fortunately, many of the underlying conditions may be treated through lifestyle changes that involve your diet, exercise routines, stress, and more.

If you have ED, then you may notice your erections are weaker than normal in the early stages. Here are some lifestyle changes you can make to potentially treat ED:

1. Kegel Exercises
These forms of exercise target the pelvic floor muscles that are responsible for flexing and supporting your penis. When these muscles are weak, you may experience weak erections or trouble marinating them. Therefore, you can do Kegel exercise by squeezing your pelvic muscles to strengthen them over time.

2. Heart-healthy diet
A sign of ED could be a weak or diseased heart. Therefore, it’s important to not only eat a healthy diet but to make sure your diet is heart-healthy as well. You should avoid red meats and instead opt for fish and other low-fat meats. You should also eat a healthy amount of fruits and vegetables alongside your diet as well.

3. Maintain a healthy weight
Another aspect of ED is your weight and whether you can be classified as overweight or not. This is because obese individuals tend to have poorer circulation and poorer heart performance. Therefore, losing weight could be on the way to treat your ED and improve your overall heart health at the same time.

4. Try biofeedback
Biofeedback methodology is applied in a clinical setting, by a trained professional. It aims to stimulate arousal via erotic content to an individual and monitors brain activity via feedback through a computer. The result is a readout that shows the patient’s brain and erection changes in response to audiovisual content (i.e., film, images). Therefore, over time, the individual and therapist can determine what arouses that particular patient’s brain and apply that feedback to their real, private and personal lives.

5. Start walking
A sedentary lifestyle, in many instances, will impact a man’s ability to get an erection before and during sex. The more the individual is active, the better the overall circulation and better blood flow due to better heart health. Therefore, it’s important to walk nearly every day and exercise as well. In some cases, even a simple 2-mile walk will be enough to potentially treat or even cure your ED.
