Footwear Fashions That are Everywhere This Year

Footwear Fashions That are Everywhere This Year

Until the dawn of the Industrial revolution, footwear for most people was basic and practical. The 19th century, however, brought advances in manufacturing and mass production that allowed for greater variety in footwear. Daily life started to impact the fashions and trends allowing manufacturers to be innovative with new designs. Walking boots were among the first to be created, followed by wooden-soled shoes, and sports footwear made its mark in the early 1830’s.

Today, these footwear innovations and trends continue to impress us on the fashion runways:

1. Kitten heels
Fashion is cyclical and this is most definitely true for kitten heel pumps. These short heel stiletto type pumps were very popular with stars such as Audrey Hepburn. They are making a comeback in 2020 gracing the feet of very influential women such as Hilary Clinton and Michelle Obama. Designed to look stylish while still offering comfort these shoes are as home at the office as they are on a night out. Top designer shoe companies such as Jimmy Choo, Marion Parke, and Bella Belle are all producing this style in 2020.

2. Metallic loafers
Comfortable, durable and striking, metallic leather loafers are a big hit this year. Leather loafers have been around for a while and this as a trend does not seem to ever be waning. And this year a number of big names such as Prada are adding the element of a metallic finish to the shoes to create a really eye-catching look. Available in a variety of metallic tones, you can look like you’re sporting solid gold shoes or finest silver.

3. Espadrille sandals
Espadrilles have been around for some time and most women have probably had a pair at some point. This traditional Spanish design is flexible and comfortable and has been updated in 2020 by several designers. Companies such as Ralph Lauren and Cole Haan have kept the comfort of the flexible sole but opened up the traditional fabric upper of the espadrille. This has created the Espadrille sandal, a combination of chic and comfort. There are a wide array of varieties in this year’s marketplace. Heels ranging from flats to wedges and a whole host of fabric designs from plain white to exotic animal prints are all massively in trend right now.

4. Platform sneakers
That craving for a little extra height is a never-ending quest, especially when it can be achieved with a little discretion. High heels stand out and draw attention but sneakers exist to give wearers a more casual look. So, if sneakers are everyday wear, platform sneakers are the everyday wear that makes you feel several inches taller. All the top brands are releasing their own takes on this trend for 2020 including Matisse, It Girl and Superga.

5. Heels with chain details
Chain details are making a big splash in 2020 especially when it comes to heels. Embellishing the heels with chains has been a real runway hit with a vast array of takes on this design. Whether adorning the ankle or strapped across the toe, this trend is creating elegant yet slightly industrial chic looks. Brands such as JW Anderson and Simone Rocha have been creating some stunning chain detailed heels.
